The Art Institute of Chicago is a world-class art museum located in Chicago’s Grant Park. It was established in 1879 and is one of the oldest art museums in the world. The Art Institute is known for its extensive curatorial efforts and popularity with visitors, and hosts over 1.5 million people each year. This museum features over 15,000 works of art from nearly 3,000 different artists. If you have never been before, be sure to visit and see what all the fuss is about.
The art museum has one of the most comprehensive permanent collections in the United States, and features works by artists from all eras, cultures, and media. The Art Institute also hosts special exhibitions and lectures. With more than 260,000 works of art, it’s no wonder that it’s considered one of the best in the world. The Art Institute has especially strong holdings in early twentieth-century European painting, photography, and Impressionist works. Its recent expansion has resulted in the museum’s modern wing, designed by architect Renzo Piano.
Navy Pier
If you’re a music fan, Navy Pier is one of the places to visit while in Chicago. You can enjoy live music and other shows from all genres on the outdoor stages at the Miller Lite Beer Garden. And if you’re looking for a night out with friends and a few drinks, try out the Thursday night dance series.
After you’ve enjoyed the sights, you can get back to the action by going on a boat tour or a sky-high ride on the Centennial Wheel. In winter, you can opt for an enclosed gondola to see the city below. For a great day out, you can also take a tour of Navy Pier and purchase souvenirs. The Chicago Children’s Museum is another great place to visit while in Chicago. And if you’re not a fan of rides, you can also take in a show at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Or you can simply enjoy the indoor botanical garden.
Crain Communications Building
The Crain Communications Building is one of the most iconic points of the Chicago skyline. Situated opposite Millennium Park, it is surrounded by a colorful array of attractions. The building is easily accessible via the Chicago Underground Pedway, as it is also near several major CTA transportation lines. Its sloped façade and dramatic chase scenes made it a frequent location for movie scenes. This modern landmark is located near several hotels, including the Hyatt Regency Chicago.
The Willis Tower, once known as the Sears Tower, was once the tallest building in the world. It is actually comprised of nine separate structures that are connected by a spire and a base. This gives it added strength during bad weather. Chicago’s Crain Communications Building, with its gleaming white facade and black pinstripes on the windows, is a fascinating Chicago landmark. The building is topped with a sloping roof for decoration, but this is not its only unique feature.
